Cooper Lutkenhaus To Take On Defending Champion Will Sumner In Millrose Games Men's 600mPublished by
As the calendar turns to 2026, the 118th Millrose Games are now less than one month away. This iconic event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 1st at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory. The Men’s 600m will be a key race to watch, as high school superstar Cooper Lutkenhaus will take on a professional field for the second year in a row, this time facing off against last year’s winner Will Sumner, as well as Olympian Isaiah Jewett. Cooper Lutkenhaus took the track & field world by storm in 2025, running 1:42.27 in the 800m to set the World U18 Record and place second at the US Championships. He then became the youngest American in history to compete at the World Championships. Earlier in 2025, Lutkenhaus set the indoor high school 800m record, running 1:46.86 at the Millrose Games. Still just 17 years old, Lutkenhaus will now be making his professional debut indoors in his return to The Armory. Will Sumner won the 600m at last year’s Millrose Games, clocking a meet record of 1:14.04. The former Georgia Bulldog was the 2023 800m NCAA Champion, as well as a two-time World Junior Champion as part of the 4x400m relay. Once a high school phenom himself, Sumner holds the high school 600m record of 1:15.58, a mark that Lutkenhaus will surely be aware of. Also in the field is 800m Olympian Isaiah Jewett. Jewett was the 2021 NCAA Champion in the event while competing for USC, before winning the Olympic Trials to secure his spot in Tokyo. In 2025, Jewett placed second behind Sumner at Millrose, running a personal best of 1:14.17. The 118th Millrose Games is a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meet. Other athletes announced include Grant Fisher, Cole Hocker, Elle St. Pierre, Jess Hull, Nikki Hiltz, Joe Kovacs, Yared Nuguse, Hobbs Kessler, Cameron Myers, Julien Alfred, Devynne Charlton, Danielle Williams, Doris Lemngole, Jane Hedengren, and Josette Andrews.
